Gum Reshaping/Recontouring
Sometimes, a person’s smile can appear “gummy” if too much gum tissue covers the crowns of teeth. Reshaping gum tissue can make for a more proportionate and pleasant smile.
When a laser is used to remove excess gum tissue, it is minimally invasive. A laser cuts tissue without scalpels and seals it, too, so sutures are often unnecessary. Reduced trauma to soft tissue and less invasiveness allows our patients to recover from gum recontouring much quicker than conventional treatment methods.
Tissue Biopsies
Abnormalities including cancers can develop anywhere in the oral cavity. If our laser dentist suspects a lesion might be malignant, our practice may use a laser to perform a tissue biopsy. This tissue sample is then sent to a lab for analysis. Tissue biopsies with lasers are less invasive because scalpels and stitches are not necessary.
Canker Sore Relief
A canker sore is an oral ulcer that can be slow to heal and quite uncomfortable. Laser therapy can improve a patient’s symptoms and promote accelerated healing. This procedure is done by directing a laser’s beam of light just above the sore. Laser therapy for canker sores is a minimally invasive and comfortable treatment option.
Orthodontic Tooth Exposure
Sometimes, emerging adult teeth do not erupt fast enough because they are stuck in the gums. This commonly occurs among the upper canine teeth during adolescence. When teeth require exposure in this situation, our team will use a dental laser to expose the tooth. Lasers provide an alternative to more invasive treatments. Once the tooth is exposed, orthodontic appliances may be attached to guide a tooth to its proper position.
